Multiple positions in a variety of locations within our service territory. 

Minimum starting pay for this position is $34.23 per hour or commensurate with experience

 

Position Summary

This position is responsible for maintenance, repair, modification and accessory outfitting on all company vehicles and equipment.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that equipment is ready and available for use by inspecting, making repairs and testing vehicles
  • Complete vehicle inspections and preventive maintenance, i.e., engine tune ups, oil changes, tire rotation, wheel balancing and filter replacement
  • Perform hydraulic hose fabrication, repairs and maintenance for aerial devices, pressure diggers and forklifts
  • Coordinate and schedule vehicle maintenance work to the approved vendors
  • Manage parts inventory
  • Perform off-road towing and recovery
  • Coordinate road service and vehicle recovery with approved vendors and contractors
  • Audit fuel pumps for leakage
  • Verify serviceability by conducting test drives, adjusting controls and systems
  • Comply with state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety and combustion control standards
  • Maintain vehicle appearance by cleaning and washing, as required
  • Maintain vehicle records by recording service and repairs
  • Maintain shop tools and equipment by following operating instructions, troubleshoot breakdowns, maintain supplies and perform preventive maintenance
  • Control maintenance and repair costs by using warranty, evaluating service and parts options
  • Recognize training needs and communicate them to the supervisor
  • Maintain supplies inventory by placing orders and verifying receipt of materials
  • Maintain awareness of changes that affect the mechanic industry

• Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

 

Supervisory and/or Leadership Responsibilities

Provide direction to fleet related contractors

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of using computer systems, which may include setting up and using hardware and software programs, entering data or processing information
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service
  • Skilled in time management
  • Skilled in managing changing priorities
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with others
  • Skilled in operating power tools
  • Skilled in fabrication, welding, electrical installation, hydraulic systems diagnosis, computer diagnosis and accessory installation
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to listen and understand information verbally and in writing
  • Ability to anticipate, identify, analyze and resolve conflict and problems

 

Minimum Qualifications - (Education, Experience, Certification, & Licensing)

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Four years of directly related work experience
  • Obtain a valid Texas Class A CDL within first six months of employment
  • Valid Driver’s License

  • This position is in a mobile field work environment and some shop work environment
  • The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions including wet and humid conditions
  • The employee may be required to work from ladders in confined spaces and occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; risk of electrical shock; toxic or caustic chemicals
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud
  • The employee may be required to stand; reach with hands and arms, stoop and kneel
  • The employee may be required to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • The employee may be required to lift, carry, push, pull or move up to 100 pounds
  • The employee may be required to travel
  • The employee will routinely utilize personal protective equipment
  • The employee must be available for call out duty and participate in emergency restoration
  • Exempt employees receive a fixed bi-weekly salary to compensate them for all hours worked during each pay period
  • This position may be required to work more than 40 hours per week
