Member Relations Field Technician

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for performing field and office work associated with delinquent balances in support of the Member Services Strategic Debt Reduction Initiatives.  


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Visit member locations to install, collect, disconnect service, test or upgrade meters to minimize theft of power
  • Utilize the collection order workflow process to assist with debt reduction
  • Correct and report problems and observed hazards
  • Conduct field meter tests and analyze results
  • Maintain accurate and timely entries of transactions
  • Assist other departments by testing meters, taking scheduled meter reads, analyzing and reporting security light audit findings
  • Utilize computer programs to map out and drive the daily route
  • Work with meters of 600 volts or less
  • Communicate with members regarding delinquent balances or request correspondence be sent when communication and collection efforts fail
  • Comply with cash handling procedures when accepting monetary transactions from members that allows service to remain connected
  • Adhere to the Cooperative’s Safety and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration Guidelines
  • Load, unload and prepare vehicles for daily usage
  • Clean cover up materials, repair, clean and inspect tools
  • Inspect meters for defects and monitor for abnormal usage volume and  enter the information into the enterprise software system
  • Utilize appropriate actions to locate meters
  • Respond to member questions and changes in company policies
  • Refer escalated member issues to the appropriate person
  • Operate radio systems within the Federal Communications Commission guidelines and maintain radio etiquette
  • Maintain the security of confidential information
  • Stay informed in advances in technology

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of using computer systems, which may include setting up and using hardware and software programs, entering data or processing information
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code specifications
  • Knowledge of the Cooperative’s Safety and Occupational Safety and Health Administration Guidelines
  • Knowledge of automatic metering  products
  • Knowledge of basic electricity and electrical hazards
  • Knowledge of mapping systems
  • Knowledge of business enterprise systems, Outage Management System, Edispatch and Utility Center
  • Knowledge of  Operations Business Unit processes, including construction, service, engineering and billing
  • Knowledge of business rules, rates and tariffs
  • Skilled in time management
  • Skilled in prioritizing and managing changing priorities
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to listen and understand information verbally and in writing
  • Ability to anticipate, identify, analyze and resolve conflict and problems


Minimum Qualifications – (Education, Experience, Certification, & Licensure

  • Associate’s Degree
  • Directly related experience may substitute for education
  • Three years of related experience in utility or related industry
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License

  • This position performs work in both office and field environments
  • Outside environment may include the need to use animal deterrents

  • The employee may be required to lift, carry, push, pull or move up to 50 pounds
  • The employee may be required to travel
  • Exempt employees receive a fixed bi-weekly salary to compensate them for all hours worked during each pay period
  • This position may be required to work more than 40 hours per week and outside the normal business hours
