Safety & Technical Training Advisor

This position is responsible for planning, directing and implementing a comprehensive safety program in support of the Cooperative’s strategic initiatives.    


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver technical training and assessments for the Apprenticeship Program
  • Perform trend analysis of accidents, incidents and safety issues
  • Deliver industry specific safety curriculum
  • Conduct and coordinate the Apprenticeship Training Program
  • Conduct and coordinate forklift training
  • Perform field safety inspections
  • Document safety violations, concerns and issues
  • Develop and deliver recommendations specific to safety training
  • Conduct, document and deliver safety assessments
  • Conduct accident investigations and analyses, in partnership with management
  • Recommend safety improvement programs to management
  • Document safety meeting attendance
  • Develop, obtain and deliver approved training materials
  • Research and communicate current safety trends
  • Coordinate training for electrically qualified positions and progressions
  • Conduct and coordinate CPR, defensive driving and other safety specific training programs
  • Serve as the safety and training subject matter expert in partnership with the management team
  • Serve as a participatory team member in safety and training programs
  • Produce and repeat positive training and assessment behaviors
  • Represent the Cooperative at external professional venues and functions
  • Present information to all levels of employees
  • Travel to district offices and deliver training programs
  • Demonstrate acceptable techniques to apprentices and journey workers
  • Maintain the ability to demonstrate industry specific skills, i.e. climbing, pole top rescue, etc.
  • Maintain certifications, specializations, licenses, etc.
  • Maintain the security of confidential information
  • Stay abreast of advances in technology


Supervisory and/or Leadership Responsibilities:  None


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of using computer systems, which may include setting up and using hardware and software programs, entering data or processing information
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service
  • Knowledge of electrical theory and OSHA regulations, NESC, NFPA 70E
  • Skilled in time management
  • Skilled in prioritizing and managing changing priorities
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to listen and understand information verbally and in writing
  • Ability to anticipate, identify, analyze and resolve conflict and problems


Minimum Qualifications – (Education, Experience, Certification, & Licensure):

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Directly related experience may substitute for education
  • Five years of experience as an Apprentice 4 or Journey Worker
  • Valid Class A CDL
  • Valid Driver’s License

  • The employee will routinely utilize Personal Protective Equipment
  • The employee must be available for call-out duty
  • The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions including wet and humid conditions
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud
  • Exempt employees receive a fixed bi-weekly salary to compensate them for all hours worked during each pay period
  • This position may be required to work more than 40 hours per week
