Procurement Specialist 1

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for performing work in the purchase of a large variety of commodities and/or services of a operational nature.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administer and execute the procurement process to include verifying specifications, developing price schedules, tabulate submissions and validate department recommendation.
  • Ensure the timely procurement of goods in accordance with procurement policies and all other applicable laws, policies and procedures.
  • Consult with department personnel on procurement needs, provides assistance for required goods
  • Review and execute contracts via purchase orders within delegated authority
  • Communicate purchasing policies and procedures
  • Tabulate and evaluates bid submissions for responsiveness
  • Stay abreast of advances in technology


Supervisory and/or Leadership Responsibilities:   none


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of local and national market practices and pricing methods
  • Knowledge of merchandise receiving and invoicing procedures
  • Skilled in the proficient operation of personal computers & associated software
  • Ability to absorb and apply established procurement, procedures, laws and regulations
  • Ability to interpret information and write general specifications for a variety of commodities
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to evaluate the production, and delivery capabilities of potential bidders and/or vendors


Minimum Qualifications – (Education, Experience, Certification, & Licensure):

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP) Certification a plus
