Compliance Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY:  This position is responsible for supporting the Compliance and Regulatory Department by executing processes or performing actions designed to maintain PEC’s compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Oversee and coordinate assigned regulatory and compliance projects, including schedule management, internal/external project coordination, research/report production, and document management.
  • Monitor and analyze regulatory proceedings and processes to stay informed of events and issues from the Public Utility Commission of Texas, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, the Texas Reliability Entity, and other State and Federal regulatory agencies, as well as advances in technology applicable to PEC.
  • Coordinate with, and gather facts from, Cooperative stakeholders to draft documents, reports, and correspondence for timely filing with regulatory entities.
  • Attend external regulatory proceedings and meetings, and report back to senior management.
  • Manage compliance and regulatory recordkeeping requirements and communication efforts by posting information on internal SharePoint sites and maintaining paper and electronic records as applicable.
  • Execute the processing of routine insurance claims and support the Risk and Insurance Program Manager by addressing assigned insurance program-related tasks as required.
  • Coordinate with Policy Administrators and Policy Preparers throughout the Cooperative to assist with the policy creation and revision process.
  • Monitor PEC’s Compliance Item tracking system and ensure timely reporting of Compliance Item status.
  • Conduct periodic compliance and regulatory monitoring of policies and internal process/controls as required.
  • Draft presentations and coordinate or conduct training to internal and external audiences.
  • Conduct independent research of regulatory and compliance issues, laws, and regulations affecting the operation of the Cooperative.
  • Address moderately complex compliance and regulatory issues, and refer more complex issues to appropriate staff.
  • Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance
  • Other duties as assigned

 

SUPERVISORY AND/OR LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:   NONE

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of using computer systems, which may include setting up and using hardware and software programs, entering data, configuration, or processing information
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service
  • Skilled in time management
  • Skilled in prioritizing and managing changing priorities
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to listen and understand information verbally and in writing
  • Ability to anticipate, identify, analyze and resolve conflict and problems

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
  • Two years of related legal, regulatory, or compliance experience, including administrative research that includes compiling and evaluating facts
  • Directly related experience may substitute for education

  • Exempt employees receive a fixed bi-weekly salary to compensate them for all hours worked during each pay period
