Operations Training Specialist

Position Summary

This position is responsible for the research, development, coordination and revision of operation training programs.

 

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all Cooperative and governmental safety regulations
  • Provide technical expertise in the development and implementation of training programs for Transmission and Distribution operations
  • Administer the System Operator training program in compliance with ERCOT/NERC standards
  • Monitor the development and delivery of training by internal and external personnel
  • Monitor ERCOT/NERC Reliability Standards changes and develop and update training materials to remain in compliance
  • Develop effective processes for evaluating training programs
  • Ensure operators maintain ERCOT/NERC certifications
  • Provide documentation of compliance to ERCOT/NERC requirements
  • Coordinate the auditing of training activities to ensure continuous process improvement
  • Ensure the Operations Training & Development group maintain ERCOT/NERC Continuing Education Provider status
  • Monitor and evaluate student performance and provide remediation, counseling and tutoring services as needed
  • Develop and administer the Training Simulator, to include monitoring and evaluating employee performance on emergency scenarios
  • Represent the cooperative at forums and industry group meetings
  • Recommend and implement solutions to complex issues and assignments
  • Provide assistance during emergencies and storm related activities
  • Ensure a safety focus in all aspects of on-the-job (OJT) training

• Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

 

 

 

Supervisory and/or Leadership Responsibilities

This position will directly oversee the training and development of operators for a duration of time.

 

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of EMS/ Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) applications or prior work experience in a mission critical or controls environment
  • Knowledge of using computer systems, which may include setting up and using hardware and software programs, entering data, configuration, or processing information
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service
  • Knowledge of technical presentations and reporting
  • Knowledge of construction materials and products
  • Experience working on EMS based infrastructure and comfortable building and executing training scenarios
  • Skilled in time management
  • Skilled in prioritizing and managing changing priorities
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to listen and understand information verbally and in writing
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to anticipate, identify, analyze and resolve conflict and problems

Minimum Qualifications - (Education, Experience, Certification, & Licensing)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
  • Directly related experience may substitute for education
  • Six years of related work experience
  • NERC System Operator certification
  • ERCOT System Operator certification preferred
  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Exempt employees receive a fixed bi-weekly salary to compensate them for all hours worked during each pay period
